‘Brand Thinking and Other Noble Pursuits’ by Debbie Millman

I borrowed this book from the Make Happy library when I started a few months ago. It’s a collection of interviews between Millman and some of the great names in the marketing and design world.

Some I had heard of, but the large majority I hadn’t. It makes a great introduction to the industry, the thinking that has gone into some of the world’s most famous brands and the brilliant minds behind them.

The book is jam packed with ideas and theories exploring the boundless ways brands can be defined and some quite surprising ways they have impacted modern culture. One of the key things I took from it was that if you are the kind of person who is interested in culture and society – you will be interested in brands. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for an insider’s view of the creative industries, those who are quite new to it like me or have been working in the industry for years.
